A Home for Traveling the World

The psychiatric hospital is an example of architecture’s capability to create “separate” spaces: places where to develop a life divided from normal society. Through a silent compromise to segregate individuals that are unable to integrate with civil life norms.

The art installation is developed vertically, the only permeable dimension of the former Psychiatric Hospital, made by a rigorous geometric articulation of the spaces open only towards the inner courtyards. A new and privileged point of view is created, a sign that creates a contact between inner and outer spaces, introducing the city into the courtyards.

The inside and outside of the former asylum is compared with the inside and outside of the individual mind, revealing the perceptive deception on which it is based.
